Concept of Emancipation is a project that aims to celebrate and explore the diversity of the people in our modern world. The time we live in can be exhausting and difficult, but Reem hopes that this series highlights how far we have come in our self-expression and our rights as individuals. Six portraits of people, perhaps from very different lives, united and simultaneously anonymised through colour and shape. The subjects primarily present as feminine, although some are more ambiguous than others as the series also explores gender identity and what it is to be “female”.
The artist hopes you will look at these and find some familiarity in the faces. Hopefully you see the beauty in these faces and be reminded of your beauty, and of the people in your life.
This, in its entirety, is a collection centred around empowerment and the joy of being alive.
